Lifetime & Height Measurements of Horses.

Horses only have a life expectancy of about 25 to 30 years, some of the animal’s I’ve until they are 40+ but this only happens rarely. The oldest horse in records lived until it was the grand age of 62 years old. It was alive in the 19th century.  In modern times the oldest pony died at the age of 57 years old, in 2007 and He is in the Guinness Book of World Records. Most horse’s birthdates regardless of their actual birth date are considered a year old on the 1st of January in the northern hemisphere and in the southern hemisphere it is the 1st august. You can get a rough estimate of a horse’s age from looking at their teeth.

In English speaking countries horses heights are measured in ‘hh’ or ‘h’ which means ‘hands high ‘. You measure their height from the highest point in their withers, which is the point where there neck meets the back, this is considered to be a stable part of the horses anatomy unlike their head or neck.  Sizes and heights vary greatly between all the different kinds of breeds, from the full sized horse and a miniature horse.
